Reducing Diabetic Impact
Diabetic Eye Exams
For patients with Type I or II diabetes, we perform annual (or as needed) dilated exams to monitor and prevent diabetic retinopathy, the leading cause of vision loss among working-aged Americans. Results are shared directly with your primary care physician to best coordinate treatment options and follow-up care.
What's Included?
Our diabetic eye exams include:
- Detailed case and medical history
- Dilation for retinal imaging
- Color vision and peripheral testing
- Retinoscopy and refraction
- Intraocular pressure measurement
Why Dilation?
Looking at the retina through an un-dilated pupil is like peeking through a keyhole. Dilation “opens the door” so your doctor can clearly view the optic nerve, macula, and blood vessels, vital for detecting, monitoring and treating diabetes-related vision issues.
